Elba Association for the Detection of Thieves minutes and resolution book (BMS 56) includes list of members, officers, directors, and riders for 1839-1842. Officers were E. J. Pettibone, Jeffrey Robe, William C. Raymond. From 1847-1853 this book was William C. Raymond's cash ledger for goods and labor at his store. W. C. Raymond Daily Sales Book from Aug. 29,1842- May 15,1850 (BMS 132) includes columns for Notes, Cash, Book, Amount and Total. The amount carried over to this book was $8002.50. Annual sales for the year ending March 31,1843 were $15426.98, for 1850 $19120.16. Inside the front cover handwritten "J. C. Raymond commenced Sept. 16th, 1844. Comments are entered on occasion: Feb 2, 1847 "Wm. Raymond fell and hurt himself, was not in store after", May 17, 1847 "today store not open, funeral of Wm. Raymond", Jan. 3, 1848 "Ruff was shot", Aug. 4, 1848 "Southworth dies". Daybook #35 (BMS 57) includes names of customers and purchases from Aug.22, 1856 to Jan. 5, 1857 for William C. Raymond & Co. The Inventory Book March, 1858 (BMS 133) places goods into 9 categories: books/ stationary, drugs/ medicine, crockery and stoneware, hardware, groceries, shoes, furs and buffalo robes, clocks and mirrors, sundries. The total value was $8547.83. Listings also include amounts, notes due W. C. Raymond & Co., mortgages and deeds, judgements before J. S. Stewart, accounts and notes due from the old firm of W. C. Raymond & Co. Raymond & Southworth Cash Book from August 1863 to September 1865 (BMS 131) includes outlays for mercantile goods (food, ashes, brooms, books and paper, notions, cloth), bank drafts, taxes, licenses, telegraph, insurance. Diptheria medecine was acquired in December 1863. 1n 1864 cash was paid to Wm. C. Raymond guardian. A note in January 1865 said "paid in Greenbacks".
